Lenovo Flex System Fabric CN4093 10Gb Converged Scalable Switch

The CN4093 is a converged, scalable switch that supports 10 Gb/40 Gb Ethernet, or 4 Gb/8 Gb Fibre Channel (FC), or both. The flexible, reliable, and high-performance features of this switch are designed to meet the demands of today's converged environments.

The base model of this scalable switch provides fourteen 10 Gb internal ports, two SFP+ external ports, and six external Omni Ports. With the optional licensing for pay-as-you-grow scalability, you easily and cost-effectively can scale this switch to support up to forty two 10 Gb internal ports, two SFP+ external ports, two QSFP+ external ports, plus 12 external Omni Ports. This converged switch provides industry-leading performance to support traffic growth and increased requirements for virtualized workloads.

Additional capabilities and features of this converged scalable switch include the following:

  • Features on Demand upgrades are available for the base configurations (fourteen 10 Gb internal ports, two SFP+ external ports, and six external Omni Ports) as follows:
    • Upgrade 1 turns on an additional fourteen 10 Gb internal ports and two QSFP+ external ports
    • Upgrade 2 turns on an additional fourteen 10 Gb internal ports and six external Omni Ports
  • Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) support
  • L2/L3 switching, CEE/FCoE, FCoE/FC with FC gateway, and FC fabric services support
  • Full fabric FC services such as name server and hardware-based zoning support
  • Up to 42 internal 10 Gb FCoE ports that support Data Control Block (DCB) protocols and FCoE FIP snooping
  • Up to 22 external ports that are arranged as two QSFP+, two SFP+, 12 Omni Ports (each Omni Port is capable of running in 10 Gb Ethernet mode or in 4 Gb/8 Gb Fibre Channel mode with autonegotiation)
  • CEE/FCoE support for all of the Ethernet ports (including the Omni Ports when they are in Ethernet mode)
  • FCoE/FC software and hardware to enable input/output consolidation at the server, connectivity to a FC storage area network (SAN), and end-to-end FCoE connections
  • Single (14 internal ports), dual (28 internal ports), or triple (42 internal ports) configuration support
  • vNIC Virtual Fabric Adapter support
